Pavement distress takes place as a result of increasing traffic loading conditions, variations in ambient temperature, moisture movement and variations in sub-grade preparation during the construction of the pavement matrix. These defects manifest as surface defects and deformation, cracking patterns and potholes. STATS provides various road, rail and bridge infrastructure services to ensure quality and safety of the users.

STATS believes in providing a clear and concise investigation approach to enable suitable repair methodologies to be implemented. To achieve this, STATS offers the following services:

  • Design for new road and airport pavements
  • Design for upgrading and/or widening of existing roads, airport runways and runway forecourt apron areas
  • Recommendations on drainage, groundwater, onsite or offsite stormwater discharge
  • Evaluation of pavement layer thickness using direct coring/dipping work
  • Evaluation of pavement layer thickness non destructively using Ground Penetrating Radar
  • Estimation of the pavement strength for the various pavement layer components through sampling and laboratory tests or incorporating
  • Falling Weight Deflectometer Tests
  • Determination of appropriate rehabilitation and pavement strengthening measure

For concrete bridge assessment, STATS provides the following solutions for our Client:

  • Establish Engineering parameters for existing bridge elements, comprising of Strength and Durability Assessment for reconstruction design
  • Conduct non-destructive concrete tests such as Rebound Hammer,
  • Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity, Half Cell Potential and Concrete Resistivity tests
  • Determine the presence of any Alkali Silica Reaction and Alkali
  • Aggregate Reaction issues for the concrete medium
  • Establish the extent of Carbonation Attacks, Sulphate Attacks and Dissolution issues
  • Recommendations on suitable methods of repair and strengthening
  • Recommendations on suitable repair materials to be used
